We had a fantastic turnout for the Inner West Chess Challenge 12, held on 16th April, 2013, at the Sydney Latvian Society Club in Strathfield. There were 296 players who competed, making a new record for this bi-annual competition!
As always, there was an enormous amount of work and effort from many people, in order to organise and conduct an event of this magnitude, so a very big thanks goes to all of the Sydney Academy of Chess arbiters and administration staff for their time in processing entries, preparing equipment, setting up the hall and assisting on the day. Also thanks to the Latvian Society Club for providing the venue, and allowing us a spacious dining area for the parents and children to eat their lunch.
The tournament had an outright winner - Linus Cooper with 7.5 points out of 8! Linus' only draw was with David Marsh in round 5, where Linus refused a draw offer with rook + knight vs 2 rooks, and was still trying to win with a knight vs rook! (Linus had the knight). What a great competitive spirit he has! Congratulations Linus on winning another tournament.
All of the prizewinners and the full standings/crosstable can be downloaded from the links below. We hope that everyone enjoyed the day! Please check the Upcoming Tournaments page if you are interested in participating in more chess events in the near future.
The next major tournament in Strathfield will be the Inner West Chess Challenge 13, to be held in the Spring Holidays on Tuesday 24th September, 2013.
