Parramatta Saturday Fun Tournament January 2014

Saturday, 18th January 2014

Sydney Academy of Chess
Unit 37, 2 O'Connell Street, Parramatta NSW

A small field of 7 enthusiastic players made a smart move and decided to compete in our first Parramatta Saturday Fun Tournament for 2014.  There is certainly more chance of winning of prize when the numbers are smaller!  The convincing winner was Raphael Montenegro with a score of 6.5/7, who only conceded one draw to Jason Yan.  Thanks to our regular arbiter Poyraz for running the event.

Here are the prizewinners below, with the standings and crosstable attached:

Trophy winners:
1st Place - Raphael Montenegro 6.5/7
2nd Place - Justin Cheung 5.5/7
3rd Place (on tiebreak) - Michael Parsons 4/7

Medal winners:
4th Place (missed trophy on tiebreak) - Samuel Brennan 4/7
Jason Yan 3.5/7 - Jason was the only player to take any points from the 1st Place winner (they drew their game).
NEW!  We are holding a Parramatta Fun Day on Tuesday 28th January (pupil-free day) with chess lessons plus a tournament.
