Date:
Tuesday, 11th April 2017
Venue:

Sydney Latvian Society Club
32 Parnell Street, Strathfield
(2 minute walk from Strathfield Station)

Tournament:

The 20th edition of the bi-annual Inner West Chess Challenge has finished.  There were 244 entrants in the competition and we would like to congratulate all the participants!  The vast majority of them stayed for the entire 8 rounds, and it was a long day, especially for those new to tournament chess.  160 of those had JCL ratings, ranging from top seed Peter Boylan (1006) down to 300.

Peter was upset in the fourth round by 17th seed Leo Ye, leaving the tournament wide open.  At the end of the day, there was only one player remaining with a perfect score.  The new Inner West Chess Challenge Champion is Cameron McGowan with 8/8 - well played Cameron!

Thanks again to all the hard-working arbiters, for setting up, packing up and maintaining order throughout the day.  Also thanks to the Latvian Society Club in Strathfield, who provide a hall well-suited for a fun day of playing chess, thanks to the canteen helpers for keeping all of the active minds well-fed and finally to the parents for bringing their children to the venue and for their patience throughout the whole day.

The final standings/crosstable can be downloaded below.  We hope to see you again at another Sydney Academy of Chess event in the near future!
