Toongabbie Junior Chess Club 2024

What happens at the chess club:

The Toongabbie Junior Chess Club meets on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30pm - 5:30pm at the Toongabbie Community Centre. The club caters to players of all levels (Beginners to Advanced). Each week the chess coach conducts a lesson to teach a new skill that is appropriate to the level of the children attending. Beginners will learn how to play and all of the rules of chess, progressing to learn some basic checkmates and strategies later on. Intermediate and Advanced players will learn about opening theories, tactics, strategies and endgames improving their game and expanding the calculation skills and foresight that they have already been developing. Children will also be given time to play friendly and competitive games against each other and to solve simulated chess puzzles.

Once children are proficient in all of the chess basics and know how to make checkmates, they are encouraged to play in tournaments to help practice their skills in a friendly competitive environment.

Workbooks are also available to aid your child’s development and for extra practice at home. For more information on our Workbooks, please click here.
