Inner West (Burwood) Junior Chess Club & Specialised Group Lessons at Burwood

The Inner West Junior Chess Club 2026 (Burwood) runs during the school term on weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Friday) and on Saturday. We provide a service to suit children who prefer after-school chess lessons (1 hour), and also those who would rather learn and play chess on the weekend (1.5 hours).
There are now two different timeslots on weekdays: 3:50pm-4:50pm and 5:00pm-6:00pm.
Each of the groups are small and focused, and has a maximum size of 8 students for weekday classes, and 10 students for weekend classes.

The club caters to players of all levels (Beginners to Advanced). Each week we run a lesson to teach a new skill that is appropriate to the level of the children attending. Beginners will learn how to play and all of the rules of chess, progressing to learn some basic checkmates and strategies later on. Intermediate and Advanced players will learn about opening theories, tactics, strategies and endgames improving their game and expanding the calculation skills and foresight that they have already been developing. Children will also be given time to play friendly and competitive games against each other and to solve simulated chess puzzles.
